The MacLean House is built upon a simple concept – it is home in every way. Few things are as fundamental to a sense of home than fresh home-cooking. The smell of a favorite meal, a chicken roasting or cookies baking, can unlock and bring treasured memories flooding back. The open, accessible-to-all kitchen at Caledonia’s award-winning model of memory care was specifically designed to make this happen. And our team at MacLean House are committed to constant improvement of our food services. So we’re very excited to launch a new culinary training partnership with the National Chef of Scotland, Gary Maclean.
The training for this culinary program was provided by The Russell & Josephine Kott Charitable Memorial Trust. The new program features Gary Maclean’s own recipes along with family favorites from staff and residents. In addition, a training portal and communication system was developed to help staff access training and support from Gary.
“Our focus has been to drive constant improvement in freshness, quality and variety of meals we prepare and serve,” says Nikki Helms, MacLean House Manager. “We have been gathering feedback and suggestions, and also monitoring resident preferences to help shape our menu to provide a high quality resident experience.”

“Good nutrition starts at home, and cooking for large groups doesn’t have to be institutional. I am thrilled to share some of my recipes and cooking techniques with the team at Caledonia Senior Living and Memory Care, and answer any culinary questions the staff has to help elevate the dining program for the residents,” said Gary Maclean, National Chef of Scotland.
Below is a sampling of some of the fresh meals created by Nikki Helms and the culinary team at the MacLean House.
